Digital OPG

Digital OPG first time in Pakistan now available at IDC

Islamabad Diagnostic Centre has always been ahead to introduce newer technology when it comes to diagnostics. IDC offers High Definition State of the Art X-era Smart Compact OPG with CEPH capabilities having direct CMOS Sensor by Yoshida.

What is an Orthopantomogram?
An OPG is an X-Ray image of your whole jaw. The X-Ray machine moves around your head while taking the image. This gives a panoramic view of the mouth, giving information on the teeth and the bones of the upper and lower jaw.

Following are salient features:

  • High definition images yield precise shape of root canal and apical direction.
  • Wide field of view (FOV) captures entire maxillary and/ oromandibular arch in one shot.
  • X-era Smart protects patients from radiation exposure while capturing the desired area.
  • Direct CMOS sensor directly converts X-ray to electronic signal and creates a blur-free image.
  • Up to 4500 images are captured in single shot to produce high definition image.
  • Multi Focal Layer Technology enables optimal focusing
  • Unique panoramic image construction technology automatically selects the most optimal focal layer position as exposure completes. Re-focusing on any spots is also possible to reconstruct the clear image.
  • Direct CMOS sensor enables the high quality image while reducing the patient dose by 50%.
  • By minimizing the exposure time, patient dose is also minimized. It also reduces risk of the retake due to the radiographic failure caused by patient’s movement.
  • Active tomography allows reconstruction of the image corresponding to anatomical shape and size of each patient even after the exposure.

 It is used to:

  • Look at impacted wisdom teeth
  • Help find the cause of dental pain
  • View the position of dental implants
  • Help assess teeth for orthodontic Treatment

Preparing for your Orthopantomogram

Before the procedure can take place, you will need to remove glass, dentures and any jewelry from your head and neck. You must tell your doctor or radiographer if you are or think, you could be pregnant.

About the Procedure
You will be asked stand in front of X-Ray Machine. A peg will be put into a slot on the machine and you shall be asked to bite onto this. Below the peg are two handles, which you are required to hold to keep your balance. Machine starts to move around your head. Try not to move as this will blur the image. The test usually takes 2-3 minutes.

What are the Risks?
Digital OPG is generally safe. You will be exposed to some X-Ray radiation, but the amount you receive is not considered to be harmful.
